Working with Mariëlle is like making your way along a path in the dark and suddenly being handed a light. Obstacles, road blocks, and pitfalls that were lying ahead and waiting to trip you up are illuminated. More importantly, all the possible ways to overcome them, as well as new and exciting paths you wouldn’t otherwise have seen also become visible. She doesn’t tell you what to write; she asks the right questions to get you to figure out what your story needs and how to go about it. She’s also helped me work out a writing schedule personally tailored to my needs and held me accountable—exactly what I needed. Working with Mariëlle motivates me and gets me excited to write.

There are many reasons why the writing process runs off track. Whether you are ‘just’ in a rut, have trouble carving out writing time in your already crazy schedule, find it impossible to get your ‘ass in chair’ or tackle your word goals, or are suffering from writer’s block, you find it impossible to write, or write enough. What is worse, you just don’t know how to get beyond this state and get your writing (back) on track.
There are plenty of books on writing and conquering writer’s block, but reading a book is not always enough. There are definitely major themes—fear, lack of self-worth—that keep coming back, but in the end writing, or not being able to write, is a very personal issue. A writing coach is able to zoom in on your personal circumstances and help you in figuring out what you need specifically to get (back) to writing. Next to that, it takes enormous courage to dig deep and unravel what keeps you from becoming the writer you could be. Having a writing coach guide you through this process not only makes you accountable for the digging you do, it will also make the process less daunting.
Asking the right questions
Getting unstuck and back on track is all about asking the right questions and daring to go beyond the most obvious answers. Is this about your plot, or the message you are trying to bring across? Are you writing in the wrong genre maybe? With the wrong voice? Or is it something else, something more profound? Are you having trouble setting personal boundaries? Are you unsure whether you are worth the time it takes to write a good story or text?
If you have been asking yourself these questions, but you have not found the right answer yet, it might be time to work with someone who can walk you through the process. A writing coach knows which questions to ask and provides a safe space for you to dig a little deeper and brainstorm about what it is exactly that keeps you from writing.
My coaching sessions are meant to help you figure out why you want to write, what you want to write, and what is keeping you from doing just that. I will help you develop your writer mentality, take yourself more seriously, and find your unique voice.
Fee per session: €79
All sessions last approximately 60 minutes.
