Remember Sherrie McCarthy from Creative Mermaids? The author and creative mermaid afloat with her family somewhere in the world (I believe she is in Tobago right now!)? She is back, and this time with her brand-new the Creative Spirits podcast, which she hosts together with Kate Darnell.
Sherrie is a passionate believer in the power of creativity to heal and when she is not writing about samurais and yokai as Lynn Francis, she is instead encouraging and helping others make their creative dreams come true through her coaching and nonfiction books and, since recently, the Creative Spirits podcast!
Kate is a published author, meditation teacher, spiritual guide, and moon goddess, loving life in Australia. She describes her first book Letters To A Tibetan Monk as thoughts shared with a fragment of her soul. Kate is on a mission to support women to live in true alignment with their heart and soul’s deepest desires. Kate’s business Gumboots by the Sea spiritually guides women in healing, empowerment, online meditation classes, and online group and individual moon mentoring. Her passion is to infuse positively, abundance, flow, magic, love, and joy in as many women’s lives as possible.
The Creative Spirits podcast
Welcome back, Sherrie, and Hi, Kate! Please, tell us a bit more about the Creative Spirits podcast!
The Creative Spirits podcast is about embracing the NOW and celebrating, living, being, and having it all as spiritual and creative beings—no matter how messy or crazy your world may seem. Together, we encourage and empower creatives to live a creative and spiritual life by sharing our real-life experiences as we invested in our own healing, claimed out titles as writers, and embraced spirituality, all the while remaining true to us, the mess, and our own stories.
There are already so many podcasts out there! How is Creative Spirits podcast different?
This podcast stands out because it is the real, messy, live, and vulnerable—we completely trust in spirit as we endeavour to provide support to our listeners by embracing and celebrating ALL the parts of their messy and brilliant lives. You’ll often hear kids playing in the background, the internet will freeze, some wind might interrupt us BUT we just keep going, we keep trusting, we keep creating—nothing is going to stop us! With a whole heap of love and trust, we are certain that our listeners can start living this way too…real life, real time healing created to empower, encourage, and support.
In other words, it is as raw as we are. We hope that the content speaks to our listeners and inspires them to create. To worry about the finished product later and instead focus on that glorious and often messy middle phase that is essential to getting any work out. Just because we’re doing it doesn’t mean it’s easy for us: we go through the fears of publishing and creating as well, as you can hear in this special The Creative Spirits launch interview dedicated to Kate’s latest book, Poems to a Wild Gypsy Spirit.
Why did you come up with the Creative Spirits podcast?
Our friendship formed by us investing in our own healing. We knew that many of our spiritual and creative breakthroughs were ones that we could share with the world. Most of our personal conversations included massive thoughts and shifts that we knew would support other women on similar journeys. We set a date to start and haven’t looked back.
Who will benefit from the Creative Spirits podcast?
Our podcast really speaks to the souls out there who are ready to prioritise their own creative and spiritual needs and desires. We’re both mum’s to kids of similar ages and we are passionate about us finding and owning our identity as creative women separate to our role as mothers and partners. Our podcast really encourages women to prioritise time for them and not to let anything keep them from living their best life.
What is the best writing advice you were ever given?
Kate: Break up with your ego and just start… Your ego is never going to give you permission to start… So stop waiting, say bye-bye to ego, and press play/publish on your creative life… The time is NOW.
Sherrie: My world was cracked open by Michael Anderle on the Rocking Self Publishing Broadcast. He said: ‘Write the book and let the readers decide’. It was so freaking freeing for me to stop the internal agonising and instead just start releasing. (This was aided by Dean Wesley Smith’s comment that writing is one career you cannot mess up. No other profession allows you to just change your name and start fresh!)
