In three weeks’ time, National Novel Writing Month will begin. Hundreds of thousands of writers across the world. 30 days. 50,000 words before the end of November.
But then what? What are you going to do with that pile of words come December? Put it in a drawer? Rewrite? Find beta readers?
Or are you going to enter a giveaway for a full developmental edit of your NaNoWriMo 2016 project? I thought so.
In honour of NaNoWriMo 2016, I am giving away a FREE developmental edit up to 50K words worth $575/£465. What is more, I have teamed up with my colleague Michelle Leedy, who will be giving away a FREE copy-edit up to 50K words. That’s two separate giveaways, two chances to win!
Is this giveaway for me?
Did you or are you going to sign up for NaNoWriMo 2016? Then, yes. Do you write in English or Dutch? Then, yes.
What can I win?
A full developmental edit up to 50K words.
A developmental edit is a content edit that helps you develop every single aspect of your story, including plot, characters, structure, pace, voice, audience, and setting. It points out larger issues and zooms in on every little detail. A full developmental edit will get you two separate documents. The first document will contain my overall assessment and advice on the story as a whole, including strengths and weaknesses. The second document will contain your work including extensive comments, suggestions, and track changes on all aspects of your story.
How do I enter the giveaway?
- Like my Facebook page.
- Tell me about your plans for NaNoWriMo by leaving a comment on this post.
Until when can I sign up for the giveaway?
You can sign up until the 30th of November, midnight GMT.
I didn’t hit 50,000 words. Am I still eligible?
No worries. Depending on your post-NaNoWriMo plans, I either wait for you to finish your project or I edit the words you did write during November.
What happens if I win the drawing but I’ve quit my project?
Again, no worries. Let me know a.s.a.p. that you did so I can draw another winner.
What if my project exceeds 50K words?
I’ll edit anything up to 60K words for free. I offer a 15% discount on anything exceeding 60K words. You can find my rate here.
When will I hear whether I’ve won?
I will draw a winner on the first of December and will let you know via Facebook.
This is a great offer, but what I really need after NaNoWriMo is a copy-edit.
You’re in luck! I teamed up with my colleague Michelle Leedy from perfectlywrite.co.uk and she is giving away a free copy-edit up to 50K words as we speak! Head over to her website, and enter her NaNoWriMo giveaway.
This is my first NaNoWriMo and my first book (thriller series). I’m determined to finish it so I can dig into the second book, because everyone knows the first book is crap. Sigh.
If you win, it won’t have to be 😉
I’d love to dig into my USA stories! It would be an amazing thing to work on and afterwards get some help with :).
USA stories? Now I’m intrigued 🙂
This sounds great! Writing my story and having a chance at a professional edit! I’d love to win, so you can view my story. It’s about living your dreams. I hope you having a look at it will make the difference between just another story and a story to share.
Sounds great, I’m all about living your dreams 🙂 Thanks for entering!
This is such a great offer! I’m posting here because I don’t have a FB account, I hope this is ok 🙂
For this year NaNo, I’m planning to outline and write a first draft of a series of novellas. I’m planning on ahaving about 5 or 6 installments, with an overarching story. Set in Berlin in 1924, with speculative elements.
The retweeting makes up for it big time 😉 Your project sounds fantastic, have fun writing it!
Wow already registered and started outline
That’s the spirit 🙂 Thanks again for entering, Shirley.
This is my fifth NaNo and I’m hoping to finish the first draft of my scifi series. Currently working on a short story for a competition and various other projects. Thank you for offering a giveaway. I’ll share it on my page.
Thanks, Angie! Good luck with NaNo!
This will be my 4th NaNoWriMo. I’m deep into planning a YA novel that I’ve been referring to as the Wizard of Oz meets Neil Gaiman. 🙂
That sounds superb! Thanks for entering, and good luck!
I’m writing a thriller for Nanowrimo this year– working on the outline now to hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls of earlier novels.
Preparing for NaNoWriMo is such a prerequisite. Good luck!
This is my first one although I’ve written a few books before. I am excited. Writing a brit based detective story- A Touch of Frost meets Blue Murder. Cast my characters and outlining started. Hope I win the edit!
That sounds like a great book, I love detectives! Good luck, both with NaNo and the giveaway 😉
Thanks for the contest! I’m writing my first fiction novel for for my first NaNoWriMo.
Taking the plunge, right? Good luck!
This would my third year participating. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to finish the last two, but I would totally like to change that this year.
Anything you’re doing differently this year to make that happen? Any advice you can share would be great 🙂
I’ve done several NaNoWriMo projects, but never while my husband is pursuing his masters degree, so fingers crossed. He’s always taken a lot over with the kids during this time, but I’m going full steam ahead anyway.
I plan to either write a fairy tale retelling of some Irish fairy tales (I’ve been connecting with my Irish roots lately 🙂 ) Or I will tackle a spin off novel from the epic fantasy series I’m working on. At the same time I plan to finish the final edits of my first epic fantasy book before sending it to an editor. In July, for camp NaNoWriMo, I clocked out at 112,000 words, so I’m excited about November!
112,000?! That’s… fabulous! What’s your aim for this NaNoWriMo?
I’m deciding between a cyberpunk thriller and a wheelchair romance for my project. Thanks for offering this contest! 🙂
Thanks for entering! I’m curious to see which of the two it’ll be 🙂
I haven’t actually started planning for NaNoWriMo yet, which probably means I’m just going to start pantsing on Nov 1.
…I did create a ‘novel’ on the page though, just because I wanted to use a screenshot of the nano page in a talk I was giving and it looked weird with “please create your novel” on it.
I’m a closet pantser myself, so I won’t judge 😉
Eyy, this is my third year participating! Excited to start writing about my occult angsty teenagers and their weird, wacky town. November 1st can’t come soon enough!
That sounds like a fun novel to write! 5 days to go….
Hi, great offer😊 This is my second NaNo. This year I will be writing a Malaysian urban fantasy story based on Malay, Indian and Chinese folktales and myths.
That sounds like a great novel, Sabine. I can only imagine how many hours of research have gone into that 🙂
What a great prize! This is my second Nanowrimo. I am writing a science fiction story involving science, aliens and a little bit of time travel.
Thanks for entering, Danielle! Good luck with NaNo 🙂
This is my first time doing Nano. I’ve got most of an outline done, with a little bit of character development done as well. Hopefully that will help keep me on track to finish my first draft while also starting a new job.
It’s a pre-teen fantasy featuring a nebbishy dragon, giant bugs, and lots and lots of couches.
NaNo and a new job? Good luck with both of those projects!
This is amazing! I can use all the motivation I can get – this is my first NaNowrimo and I’m really excited and nervous. I have a cyberpunk scifi book outlined and ready to go for the 1st!
Just keep on breathing, it’s only NaNoWriMo 😉 Hope the giveaway helps motivate you!
I’m in! planning to write book 2 in a series of racy romance would love love love to test out your editing style.
Entering your name 🙂 Good luck with writing!
I have done many NaNo challenges, most in other months! This November I am writing a fairy tale romance based on Little Red Riding Hood. This is the second in a series, joining a July book-in-a-month novel, Snow White and the Eighth Dwarf.
Thank you for the opportunity you are giving writers.
You’re welcome 🙂 I’d love to read what you come up with!
This is my fifth nano! I’m so excited to start. I write YA SF and this year will be a new world I’m developing. It would be an amazing opportunity to have a developmental edit. 🙂
I couldn’t agree more! I’m editing a SF series at the moment, it’s such a great genre to be working on.
This is a superhero story for grown-ups with a female protagonist with a thriller/sci-fi light aspect.
Sounds good 🙂 Good luck writing!
This is so cool! This is my second NaNo, and I outlined this year, so I plan to win this time! 🙂 I’m writing a romantic comedy about a girl trying, and failing, to find a boyfriend. This is my first attempt at NA romance. Wish me luck!
Outlining is the trick, they say 😉 Good luck, only 29 days to go!
In this prehistoric-Asian blend fantasy, a boy must battle against mythical monsters or face anonymity and the destruction of his tribe.

Sounds intriguing! How many words have you gotten thus far? 9 days to go…
I’m working on a fantasy 🙂 Only a few days left. Wish me luck!
Good luck! How many words left?
I’m in.
I would love to enter too! Didn’t find this until today :'(
I already drafted a winner, Nina! Sorry…
Thank you all for entering the giveaway! Yesterday, I picked a winner using a random name picker tool, and Sue Larkins Weems is the lucky author! Don’t be sad, this was so much fun I am absolutely going to do it again some time 🙂
