Remember Sherrie McCarthy from Creative Mermaids? The author and creative mermaid afloat with her family somewhere in the world (I believe she is in Tobago right now!)? She is back, and this time with her brand-new the Creative Spirits podcast, which she hosts together with Kate Darnell.

Sherrie is a passionate believer in the power of creativity to heal and when she is not writing about samurais and yokai as Lynn Francis, she is instead encouraging and helping others make their creative dreams come true through her coaching and nonfiction books and, since recently, the Creative Spirits podcast!

Kate is a published author, meditation teacher, spiritual guide, and moon goddess, loving life in Australia. She describes her first book Letters To A Tibetan Monk as thoughts shared with a fragment of her soul. Kate is on a mission to support women to live in true alignment with their heart and soul’s deepest desires. Kate’s business Gumboots by the Sea spiritually guides women in healing, empowerment, online meditation classes, and online group and individual moon mentoring. Her passion is to infuse positively, abundance, flow, magic, love, and joy in as many women’s lives as possible.

The Creative Spirits podcast

Welcome back, Sherrie, and Hi, Kate! Please, tell us a bit more about the Creative Spirits podcast!

The Creative Spirits podcast is about embracing the NOW and celebrating, living, being, and having it all as spiritual and creative beings—no matter how messy or crazy your world may seem. Together, we encourage and empower creatives to live a creative and spiritual life by sharing our real-life experiences as we invested in our own healing, claimed out titles as writers, and embraced spirituality, all the while remaining true to us, the mess, and our own stories.Read More →

Elan Samuel’s Write Right Podcast – An Interview

Happy New Year, everyone! Let’s start the year off right with an interview with Elan Samuel, the host of the Write Right podcast. I connected with Elan online through the podcast’s co-hosts John and Craig, who are in my writing accountability group. Elan is a full-time writer, though in very different worlds. By day, he writes for a tech company in Silicon Valley. By night, he writes for himself and for his book review blog, The Warbler Books. As one third of the Write Right Podcast, he tends to ramble about his feelings about writing on an (almost) weekly basis.

Write Right podcast

What is the Write Right podcast about?

Write Right was initially intended to serve as a podcast for writers by editors—and for the first ten episodes (the entirety of the first season), that’s what it was. Those episodes were hosted by a group of editors from Story Perfect Editing Services. After the tenth episode, we looked at the format, cast, and content and decided to take the podcast in a slightly different direction. We still talk about editing from time to time, but the podcast covers the writing life in general—beyond words on a page, how does being a writer affect our relationships, jobs, decisions, and emotions?

How is the Write Right podcast different from everything else out there? How does it stand out?

While I’d like to think that we’re vastly different from all the other podcasts out there, we probably aren’t too far off from the current landscape of writing-focused shows out there. We’re inspired by other podcasts—Writing Excuses in particular—and some of our format might feel familiar as a result. Where we do stand out, probably, is in the meandering nature of our discussions. Often, a seemingly innocent topic will lead to us discussing a tangentially related sociological topic before we’re wrangled back to focus. It’s quite fun to lose track of the thread with the guys.Read More →

Blake Atwood’s All Apprentices: Quick Editing Tips – An interview

This month, I interviewed Blake Atwood about his new podcast All Apprentices: Quick Editing Tips, a podcast that focuses on self-editing tips for authors. Blake is a full-time editor, author, and ghostwriter and the founder of BA Writing Solutions LLC. He runs AllApprentices.com, a resource website for writers that seeks to encourage and enlighten through a weekly email newsletter and podcast. I was a guest on the podcast earlier this month, to talk about the differences between developmental and copy editing.

He wrote Don’t Fear the Reaper: Why Every Author Needs an Editor and The Gospel According to Breaking Bad, and he co-wrote The Father Effect: Hope and Healing from a Dad’s Absence, released in October of 2017 through FaithWords, a Hachette imprint.

He’s ghostwritten five books (but can’t tell you anything about them) and has edited dozens more.

All Apprentices: Quick Editing Tips

What is your website AllApprentices.com about?

AllApprentices.com is a resource website for writers that houses my first podcast, All Apprentices: Quick Editing Tips (which you can find on iTunes here), and my weekly email newsletter for writers.

The podcast offers one self-editing tip every week. Time permitting, I’ll produce another, longer podcast featuring interviews with writers I know in the future, but for now the self-editing tips will have to do.Read More →
